Philippine School Bahrain celebrated Nutrition Month with the theme: “Timbang Iwasto sa Tamang Nutrisyon at Ehersisyo” which focused on establishing the balance between right nutrition and exercise.
Nutrition Month is a health awareness campaign where the importance of making food choices as well as developing and maintaining good eating habits was given strong emphasis through the activities, like drawing contests, collage-making contests, poster making contests, coloring contests, Mommy Chefs, Little Chefs, “Baon mo, ubusin mo” program, Pinggang Pinoy, and poetry & singing contests.
The Pinggang Pinoy was a classroom-based activity where students brought food according to the three food groups; the Go, Grow and Glow. They presented the food in front of their teachers and classmates and described the food according to nutrient contents.
The Poster Making contest was also classroom-based activity where pupils made creative posters on the theme “Timbang Iwasto sa Tamang Nutrisyon at Ehersisyo.”
The “ Baon Mo, Ubusin Mo “ was a program of the Primary Department during the Nutrition Month celebration. The word "baon" is referred to a style of lunch popular with school kids. This program aimed to motivate pupils to consume their “baon” . It also aimed to instill to the pupils not to waste food, and appreciate their parents’ efforts of waking up early to prepare their food. Lastly, the program taught the pupils to value whatever foods served to them.
The Little Chef was an activity organized in the Kindergarten and Primary Departments, where children would prepare simple food recipes using ingredients from the Go, Grow and Glow food groups. This activity taught the children to eat healthy foods regularly, instead of eating junk foods which are unhealthy.
The mothers of elementary school pupils who were also known as “Mommy Chefs” came to school and prepared nutritious foods for the kids. Through the activities, the students were encouraged to have the right nutrition and exercise to help the students realize that having a healthy lifestyle would make a difference and can help them live longer.
