HISTORY

The Philippine School Doha is under the Philippine Embassy’s auspices in Qatar, a non-stock, non-profit community school governed by the Board of Trustees (BOT). It caters to the children of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in Qatar following the K to 12 Philippine Curriculum as prescribed by the Department of Education, Philippines utilizing English as its primary medium of instruction.

Founded by the pioneering members of the Filipino community in Doha on 03 October 1992, and until now, it continues to serve the educational needs of the Filipino children in the State of Qatar. As such, the Corporation Code and special laws and regulations of the Philippines have governed the school. Furthermore, it has a particular set of rules for the PSD operation as a community school and being a member of the Association of Philippine Overseas (APSO) through the Manual of Policies, Standards and Regulations (MPSR) for Philippine Schools Overseas.

This Manual was crafted up by the Inter-Agency Committee on Philippine Schools Overseas (IACPSO) which is chaired by the Department of Education, co-chaired by the Department of Foreign Affairs with the Department of Labor and Employment, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and Commission on Filipinos Overseas as members, of which all APSO members are required to adhere to. The PSD Manual of Norms amplifies these policies as approved by the Board of Trustees to be the bases in the daily operation of the Philippine School Doha complementing the school corporation amended by-laws.

Furthermore, the school is also governed by Amiri Ordinance No.7 of the year 1980 regarding the organization of community schools in the State of Qatar and by applicable regulations of concerned local authorities. Following the general provisions of the said Ordinance, PSD was permitted by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to operate as a private school of the Filipino Community in Qatar, under the auspices of the Philippine Embassy in Doha. The Department of Education, Culture and Sports granted the PSD the permit to operate on March 06, 1997, per government Permit No. 002, s. 1997. Subsequently, on February 01, 2000, Philippine School Doha was recognized by the DECS per Government Recognition No. 001, s. 2000. In March 2015, PSD was granted a 3-year accreditation by the Qatar National School Accreditation (QNSA) and another three (3) years on March 22, 2018.
