Background

The Philippine Int’l. English School (PIES) in Fahaheel, Kuwait was an offshoot of the state visit of President Fidel V. Ramos to Kuwait in September 1997. In his meeting with His Highness, the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, President Ramos personally appealed to the Kuwait community to establish a Philippine school that will address the educational needs of the Filipino children based in Kuwait.

The dream of having a Philippine school in Kuwait was realized when Ghazi Faisal Al Dabbous, the school owner solely funded its establishment. On 12 August 1998, the Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait, Shulan O. Primavera laid the first slab of marble to symbolize the establishment of the first-ever Philippine school in Kuwait at Fahaheel. The ceremony was attended by Abdullah Shamsuddin, Acting Director of Private Education at the Ministry of Education, school owner Ghazi Faisal Al Dabbous, leaders and members of the Filipino community, and media representatives.

The school started its first year of operation on 12 April 1999 for the school year 1999-2000 under Directive Permit No. 2780 issued by the Ministry of Education of Kuwait on 01 September 1999. It was inaugurated on 17 April 1999 and was given a Philippine Department of Education authorization in October 2001. It started with pre-elementary, elementary, and secondary educational programs based on Philippine curriculum.

Vision

Believing in the philosophy that education is an instrument for the development of the citizenry and for the enhancement of nation-building, the PIES visualizes the school as the premiere learning institution in the State of Kuwait for Filipino children to become responsible citizens and future leaders of their country.

The PIES envisions intellectually equipped, morally upright, physically fit, disciplined, technologically competent, and service-oriented individuals living in a competitive local and global environment.

Mission

To realize the vision, PIES shall:

1. Be consistent with the objectives of the Philippine educational system by offering the prescribed Philippine Curriculum for elementary and secondary private education and by integrating relevant local Ministry of Education requirements;

2. Periodically review and continuously develop and improve the school’s curriculum offerings in order to be responsive to the exigencies of the times;

3. Endlessly seek and employ more creative and innovative teaching and learning techniques in order to become a world class Philippine school; and

4. Endeavor to provide an environment conducive to the development of creative, independent, expressive, socially responsible, service-oriented and critical thinking individuals by tapping their multiple intelligence.
