PSO Conference Goes Virtual
The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), is all set to hold its first ever Virtual Conference of Philippine Schools Overseas (via Zoom and FB Live) on 23-24 April 2021 at 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., Manila time.
Around 400 representatives from 37 Philippine schools in Bahrain, Greece, East Timor, Italy, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Libya, Oman, and United Arab Emirates are expected to attend.
The conference aims to promote and strengthen Philippine curriculum-based education abroad to ensure continuing education for Filipino students who are temporarily living in other countries with their parents but are intending to go back home at some point, as an option, to finish their schooling.
Themed “Philippine Schools Overseas – Surviving and Thriving Amidst the Challenges of the Covid-19 Pandemic,” the virtual event is geared towards enhancing education and institutional practices in PSOs to ensure the safety and well-being of learners, teachers, and personnel, and the continuity of learning despite the challenges of the global pandemic.
There will be lectures and discussions on topics such as the K-12 curriculum updates, delivery of quality education and assessment in the new normal, managing anxiety and stress in this time of the pandemic, and reintegration opportunities for overseas Filipinos.
A panel discussion on issues, challenges and best practices of online learning has also been lined up. Selected school Principals from Bahrain, Greece, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates will be sharing their respective schools’ experiences and the best practices they developed to continue the delivery of learning during these trying times.
The highlights of the recently concluded Virtual Youth Leaders in the Diaspora (YouLeaD), which was participated in by the students from PSOs, will also be shared. YouLeaD is a flagship program for Filipino youth overseas of the CFO. In 2012, the CFO launched YouLeaD in PSOs to engage Filipino youth leaders across the globe to participate in the development initiatives of the country.
Prior to this virtual conference, the CFO, serving as the Secretariat of the Inter-Agency Committee on Philippine Schools Overseas (IACPSO), has already spearheaded sixteen (16) conferences on the management and operation of PSOs, which were held in both the Philippines and abroad.
